The Culinary Team Playbook

The Rethink Food Commissary Kitchen Team embodies unparalleled inventiveness and care in the pursuit of building a more sustainable and equitable food system. Every team member is a vital to operations, devising pragmatic solutions to repurpose surplus food and create lasting change.

As the primary destination for donations received by Rethink Food, the Commissary Kitchen is prodigious engine - a well oiled machine that transforms 9,000 pounds of ingredients into 7,500 weekly meals for communities impacted by food insecurity across NYC. From donation pickup to bagging and tagging, every team member and station in the kitchen operates in lockstep.

Beyond accomplished culinary professionals, the Team is full of heart. Their work is centered on the needs of the people who bring New York City to life. They listen carefully to them, to ensure that the food delivered is nutritious and received with joy.

We’re proud to present The Culinary Playbook; an interactive guide to the processes, considerations and operations of the Team. In this playbook, we dive into the details; helping you understand the depth of thought and intention that goes into our Kitchen processes. We believe collaboration is the key to growth, and invite your input, questions and thoughts.
